Response to the "People are Bad" Argument

Here's an example of the "We can't have a society without government because people are bad -- they can't be trusted to behave themselves -- society will become total chaos" argument:

"I simply understand that there is a need for the rights of the people to be orderly protected and for the adjudicating of disputes. In other words until people are perfect there is a need for respect of some kind of "law". A republic allows for those within the society to be governed not only to be the government but to make the laws. Society decided to give that away in this country. Bad idea in my opinion it has failed."

Response: "You claim that until people are perfect, all of us nasty, imperfect people need to bow to some kind of "law." 1) For the ones who don't mind being nasty to people, why would they care about "law"? 2) If "laws" are needed to keep us imperfect people in line, what SPECIES is writing these "laws"? Whether it's a "Republic," or any other flavor of ruling class, giving one group the supposed right to rule, and supposed PERMISSION to initiate violence against innocents, does NOT help." - Larken Rose
